Bollywood celebrities mostly give measured answers on various topics, keeping in mind the backlash that follows an unusual statement. But, every now and then, one can see Bollywood stars losing control over their words and making some really bizarre statements.
Here are some of the most controversial statements made by B-town celebs were the talks of the town for quite a while.
Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan’s silent rivalry is known to all of us. But the Dangal star once took it to a whole new level when he infamously wrote on his blog that Shahrukh Khan (his dog) was licking his feet.
“Shah Rukh is licking my feet and I am feeding him biscuits every now and then. What more I can ask for?… Shah Rukh is once again begging for my attention, so let me get back to him. He is smelling too much. I think he needs a bath. Heel Boy, heel.”
Sara Ali Khan
Sara Ali Khan faced immense backlash from netizens when she made an ‘inappropriate’ remark in an interview when she was questioned over colorism. She went on to say:
“If you wanna be tan, just put on some bronzer, and if you wanna be fair, put on some powder.”
Shahid Kapoor
Relationship squabbles among Bollywood celebrities have always managed to bag headlines in B-town. When the Kabir Singh actor was asked if he would mind working with his ex-girlfriend Kareena Kapoor Khan, his reply didn’t take much time in creating a cold-love controversy. He said:
“I would like to work with her again. I feel that as an actor if my producer wants me to romance with a cow or a buffalo also, I’ll do it because that’s my job.”
Kangana Ranaut
As an actor who rarely holds her thoughts back, Kangana has created a lot of controversies over the years. However, her most notable controversy was her ‘love turned ugly’ affair with Hrithik Roshan that was making rounds on the internet for quite a long time. The controversy between the two really grabbed everyone’s attention when Kangana made some personal statements about the actor on “Aap Ki Adalat”. She went on to say:
“He told me that he would never accept me publicly and the way things were in his family, he would never leave his wife. So, I told him to leave me but he didn’t want to do that either. This was the reason I didn’t want to do Krrish 3 because when you are not ready to marry me, then I don’t want anything with you. But he persuaded me for four months to sign Krrish 3.”
Mahesh Bhatt
Mahesh Bhatt landed up in a controversy when in an interview given to a magazine, he expressed his love for his daughter that was considered absurd by netizens. Mahesh Bhatt said:
“If Pooja wasn’t my daughter, I’d love to marry her.”
Salman Khan
Salman Khan received a lot of backlash from almost everybody when he linked his physical pain during the shoot of his movie “Sultan” to that of a raped woman. He said:
When I used to walk out of that ring, it used to be actually like a raped woman walking out.”
His father Salim Khan later apologized for the actor’s insensitiveness.
Bhumi Pednekar
Bhumi Pednekar commented on the claims of her unfair casting in Bala that didn’t go well with all netizens. She said:
“If a filmmaker has taken me, it is because I add some value to the film. I am a half-decent actor. I do bring in a lot to a movie. It can’t be a person’s physical appearance that an actor is cast in a film. There is a lot more than an actor brings in a movie.”
Another instance when Bhumi attracted backlash was when she said that she enjoys playing Poker and Teen Patti. While the Teen Patti game is a prominent part of social events in India, a small group of people went on to say that she is promoting real money gambling in the country.
Karan Johar
When reports of Karan Johar bitching Priyanka Chopra started doing rounds on the internet, the former went on to say that ‘some people need to smell the Koffee’.
Alleging that it was a PR stunt, Karan had tweeted:
“Using their hired PR machinery and hiding behind so-called “friends” to get news into tabloids is nothing but spineless and lame. Some people need to wake up and smell the KOFFEE!!! Get a reality check before it’s too late!!! Grow up!!! and don’t mess with goodness….”
Saif Ali Khan
In an interview given to The Quint, Saif Ali Khan landed up in a controversy when he said that working on a film set is similar to working in a hospital during corona times. He explained:
“During the lockdown, we quietly sat at home for six months, wasted our lives, and lost our time. But now when the government is saying go out and work to support the economy, we are on the frontline again. It’s a high-risk profession, almost like working at a hospital.”
Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor was heavily slammed by netizens when she said it’s her good karma that she is privileged.
“Today on Father’s Day I’d like to say one more thing, yes I’m my father’s daughter, and yes I am here because of him, and yes I’m privileged. That’s not an insult, my father has worked very hard to give me all of this. And it is my karma where I’m born and to whom I’m born. I’m proud.”
