The Must Visit Ancient Sites in Greece for History Lovers 1

For history students, nothing beats a visit to the sites that are often described in textbooks. The descriptions will begin to make sense. You also begin to appreciate the history of humanity and what people did over the years. Get help with writing coursework  from Thesisgeek.com while you’re planning to enjoy fantastic traveling in Greece. Here are some of the must-visit sites in Greece.

    The Acropolis

The Acropolis is located in Central Athens and is one of the most recognizable historical sites. It was built for security purposes but also aimed to honor the Greek Gods. It is the most famous landmark in Greece and used by tourism authorities to entice visitors.

The Acropolis has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Sitting at the top of the Acropolis is the Erechtheion and Parthenon, two recognizable and famous buildings in Greek history. Visit the Acropolis and witness the architecture of the 5th Century BC, a period also referred to as The Golden Century of Athens.

    Ancient Delphi

The Ancient Delphi once stood as the center of the earth. It was a sanctuary, it was prophetic and brought people from all over the world to listen to the Oracle of Delphi. The entire space features a theater, temples, and ruins of other structures that make up the Delphi.

Visitors to the site receive an exemplary tour by informed guides who make you feel as though you lived during the era. It remains one of the best-kept secrets of Greek history. There are nearby hostels where you can spend the night as you visit other historical sites in the vicinity.

    Meteora

The Meteora features monumental rock pillars at the center of Greece. The land around the area might not be as inviting as you would expect. However, there are monasteries built on top of these pillars and rocks. They will seal the deal for you.

The monasteries link Greeks perfectly with the Orthodox Church. You will also witness the evidence of persecution that took place during the Ottoman occupation. It is an excellent addition when on a trip to the Delphi, either before or after.

    Corinth Canal

The Corinth Canal is famous for more than its scenery. It is an excellent part of your trip to Peloponnese. If you are coming from Mycenae, you can also make a stop at the canal.

The canal was constructed in 1881 to join the Gulf of Corinth and the Saronic Gulf. It is dug at sea level and turns the peninsula into an island. It is an iconic crossing that tests the navigation skills of the best captains.

Historical sites in Greece are endless. They give you a tour through centuries of human civilization for one of the longest-standing communities. A tour to Greece will be one of the most rewarding for your life.
