In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old man who was declared brain dead after an accident got goosebumps and also moved his hands just when a doctor was about to start his post-mortem and touched him. The man, Shankar Gombi from Karnataka was declared dead by a private hospital in Belagavi after keeping him under two-day observation. The hospital administration also asked his family to take his body for his last rites

Gombi reportedly met with an accident in Mahalingapur on February 27 and his body was sent to the Mahalingapur government hospital in Bagalkot on Monday (March 1) for post-mortem while his family prepared for Gombi’s funeral

Galgali said, “I have done more than 400 post-mortems in my 18-year-old career but never seen a case like that.”  A case has not been registered yet.

The man has now been admitted to another hospital for treatment.

Similar cases had been reported in India in the past as well. One such incident in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district took everyone by surprise in 2019. Sanna Eerajja, over 80 years old, had reportedly died of an illness more than 50 years ago. But his sudden return to his village left everyone baffled.

Similar incidence in 2018, a man in Bhopal pronounced dead by doctors was resuscitated after a pathologist who was to perform the autopsy found the ‘dead man’ to have a pulse.

Himanshu Bharadwaj, a resident of Professor Colony in Chhindwara, suffered severe injury in a road accident. He was admitted to a local hospital, but as his condition worsened, he was rushed to a private hospital in Nagpur. There, Bharadwaj was declared brain-dead.

He was brought back to Chhindwara District Hospital where he was pronounced dead and his ‘body’ sent for autopsy.

Luckily for him, pathologist Dr. Nirnay Pandey who was to perform the autopsy detected Bharadwaj’s pulse. He was rushed to a ward in the hospital and given initial treatment.
