If you thought it is a long drive to the wedding venues, you will be surprised to see what this couple decided to do for their wedding amid the coronavirus pandemic.
He was the Cabinet former minister for the federal territories.
A Malaysian ex-MP Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor decided to take the safest road and ditched the traditional wedding venue for his son’s wedding.
The guests simply waved and drove past the event’s hosts, Putrajaya MP Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, his wife, his son Tengku Muhammed Hafiz Tengku Adnan and his bride Oceane Cyril Alagia, Bernama news agency reported.
The guests then collected their food packs at a tent set up nearby by winding down their vehicles’ windows.
Tengku Adnan had set up a special stage in front of the Palace of Justice – the main court complex in Putrajaya – where the newlyweds were seated to wave to the guests.
The young couple later stood by the road to wave to their guests.
The Javanese-themed ceremony started at 11am and ended about 2 pm, Bernama reported.
Said Tengku Muhammed Hafiz: “The drive-through concept was my father’s idea. He wanted my wedding to be celebrated by all the people in Putrajaya as they are also my family as I grew up here.”
Sunday was the 70th birthday of Tengku Adnan, who is both Umno treasurer and secretary of Umno-led Barisan Nasional coalition.
Mr Hafiz’s father, Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, a former Malaysian minister, posted photos of the wedding on his official public Facebook account yesterday.
The unusual event was celebrated in “the new norm”, he said.
“In estimation, I am informed that there are more than 10,000 vehicles here since this morning.
Malaysia is currently facing a new wave of coronavirus infections.
The wedding came just one day Malaysia’s High Court found Mr Adnan guilty of corruption.
The 70-year-old treasurer-general of Umno, Malaysia’s largest and ruling Perikatan Nasional alliance party, was sentenced to a year in jail for accepting 2 million ringgit ($656,000) from a local businessman in 2016 when he was the federal territories minister.
He was also fined 2 million ringgit for the offence.
