Access to menstrual hygiene is the right of every woman. In our country, where only 36 per cent of women use sanitary pads during their periods, the COVID-19 pandemic added another roadblock in the way of awareness and access to menstrual hygiene products for most women, especially in rural pockets of the nation.

Indian Revenue Services (IRS) officer Aman Preet decided to take the lead in her own hands – after all periods do not stop during the pandemic!
The IRS officer, who is presently posted in New Delhi as Joint Commissioner of Income Tax Department, started an initiative to distribute sanitary pads to women in as many as 17 states of the country.
Over 12.5 lakh women were handed over sanitary pads since the pandemic outbreak. A simple gesture of helping her house help with a pack of sanitary napkins took the momentous size of a movement. Initially, she used her savings and personal finances to help as many women as possible.

While Aman Preet is still working towards creating awareness towards the cause, she asserts that the lack of adequate knowledge being passed on from one generation to the next adds to the obstacles.
