Fastest Century in IPL History

IPL tournaments are full of glamour, glitz, and some exceptional brand of cricket. And when speaking of good cricket, we will have to speak of the IPL centuries that were skillfully scored by several batsmen across all teams. So, here’s bringing you all the details of the fastest century in IPL history by Indian players and overseas players. Read on before you cheer for the fastest 100 in IPL 2021. 

Chris Gayle – 30 deliveries (2013) 

Chris Gayle holds the record for the fastest 100 in IPL history. Back in 2013, in a match against Pune Warriors, Gayle smashed 175 runs from 66 balls. This memorable innings also had 13 fours and 17 sixes. During this knockout innings, the left-handed powerhouse batsman needed only thirty balls to hit the three-figure mark. 

Thanks to Gayle’s 175, Royal Challengers Bangalore had a total of 263/5 in the match. They stopped Pune at a meager 133/9, which means they lost the match by as many as 130 runs. It is time to see whether the fastest century in IPL 2021 can top this record.  

Yusuf Pathan – 37 deliveries (2010) 

Yusuf Pathan holds the record for the fastest century in IPL by Indian player. In fact, Yusuf Pathan fastest century in IPL is still the only Indian presence in the top five fastest centuries in IPL history. He scored a century in just 37 balls in an IPL match against Mumbai Indians in 2010. Mumbai Indians had scored a total of 213, and the fastest century in IPL by Indian player was the only thing keeping Rajasthan Royals in the game. After Pathan got out, Rajasthan could only manage 208/7 and lost the match. 

So, among all the Indian cricketers, Yusuf Pathan fastest century in IPL holds the top spot. Here’s hoping that the fastest 100 in IPL 2021 to be from an Indian cricketer. 

David Miller – 38 deliveries (2013) 

After Yusuf Pathan fastest century in IPL, let’s move on to David Miller’s 101-run smash out for 38 deliveries in IPL 2013. In the crucial match, Royal Challengers Bangalore had set the target of 191 against Punjab and were dominating the match from the start.  

Punjab was in quite a fix as they had scored just 64/4 in 9.5 overs. The spellbinding fastest 100 in IPL history by Miller helped Punjab chase this challenging total within 18 overs and six wickets left to spare. 

Adam Gilchrist – 42 deliveries (2008) 

The first season of IPL saw the fastest 100 in IPL history come from Adam Gilchrist before his record was broken by Gayle. He struck a century for 42 balls while playing for Deccan Chargers.  

They were out chasing 155 runs against Mumbai Indians. Thanks to the explosive innings by Adam Gilchrist, his team won the match in only twelve overs. With ten wickets and several overs to spare, this was a rather comfortable win by Deccan Chargers. 

AB de Villiers & David Warner – 43 deliveries (2016 & 2017) 

AB de Villiers & David Warner got the fifth spot jointly by scoring a century with just 43 deliveries. The former scored 129 runs for 52 balls, which included ten fours and 12 sixes, against Gujarat Lions.  

On the other hand, Warner slammed his 126 runs for only 59 deliveries that included eight sixes and ten fours. His superb innings helped Sunrisers Hyderabad win against Kolkata Knight Riders by 48 runs. Let’s see if the fastest 100 in IPL 2021 can achieve such a feat.
