A female traffic constable in the twin towns very openly accepting a bribe from a two-wheeler rider — the citizen was asked to tuck money into the back pocket of the cop’s uniform — the policewoman has been sued for subjecting the force to this “indignity”, and without a second thought suspended.
A senior official from the traffic control branch said, “Our preliminary inquiry has revealed that the incident took place on December 15 at Shagun Chowk. The video was shot by some people from an adjacent building. We have looked into the video and a report has been submitted to senior officials for further action.”
Confirming the action taken against the cop, DCP (Pimpri-Chinchwad headquarters) Sudhir Hiremath said, “We received thevideo on social media. It was filmed at Sai Chowk. Our departmental inquiry will figure out what happened at the spot. We have suspended the constable from the service. This gives out a clear message to those cops who have been indulging in such practices while performing their duties.”
His suspension order to Sonnar clearly states, “While performing duty, you were standing apart from your colleagues intentionally and were seen doing an undignified act. You encouraged a citizen to place money in the pocket of your uniform, causing damage to the image of the entire police department. You are a public servant, but your irresponsible and undisciplined conduct is a blot on the image of the disciplined police department. Therefore, you are suspended from police service.”
