Certain degree of uncertainty hangs over plans by makers of superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Kochadaiyaan to release it on Pongal in January. Though Distribution house Eros International had official announced two weeks back that Kochadaiyaan, the country’s first-ever 3-D animation film which has Rajini and Deepika Padukone in the lead, would be releasing on 10th January next year, a few days ahead of Pongal.
But with films of Ajith and Vijay are also expected to release for Pongal, makes it one of the ‘hottest’ Pongal as the three bigwigs of the Tamil film industry have rarely clashed at the box-office. However, problem appears to have stemmed from the fact that there might not be enough theatres in the State to release the films of the ‘big three’ in Kollywood.
Theatre-owners, who have always preferred Rajini’s films to films by any other hero, have reportedly decided to allot a minimum of 750 halls for Rajini’s Kochadaiiyaan which would surely eat into the number of films required/to be allotted to Ajith’s Veeram and Vijay’s Jilla. Both Ajith and Vijay appears to be targeting Pongal to release their films and don’tappear to be back-tracking.
Trade pundits have reportedly told the makers of Kochadaiyaan that the simultaneous release of three big films would adversely affect the box-office collections of all the 3 films. Hence the Kochadaiyaan team is highly likely to look for a day when no other big stars film releases. However, a clear picture might emerge only on 12th December during the audio-launch.
